Woof! Woof woof woof.Translation: Hi! My name is Vegas.

I was born on April 1, 2007 in Martin County, Minnesota. My dog mommy was a beautiful Husky and my dog daddy was a handsome Labrador. That makes me a Huskador, but my Momma Deb and Momma Linda called me their Huskadorable!

Growing up I loved to hear my “gotcha day” story. My Momma Deb told it best…

It was a sunny Saturday in June when we received the call. Momma Linda answered the phone then yelled to me, “Hey Deb, we are approved but we have to go right now. They close at 1pm!” We hopped in the car and headed south to the Martin County Humane Society. We talked about possible names for you as we drove; Penny, Jackpot, Chips, Casino, Vegas? Finally, we decided upon Vegas. It was our favorite place and it would be a perfect name for you! When Momma Linda pulled into the parking lot, I could hardly contain myself. I jumped out of the car and headed straight for the door. “Wait up,” yelled Momma Linda. “You must be Deb and Linda. We have 2 girl puppies left. I will bring them both outside so you can meet them,” the humane society volunteer said. After what seemed like an eternity the volunteer reappeared. Her arms full of fluffy, blonde fur. She set one fluffy fur ball down then the other. “Watch them play, it will help you decide,” she said. As soon as the volunteer set you down, you sprinted over and tackled your sister with all the might of a Packer defensive lineman. You were determined to pin her down. To give your sister a little relief, I reached in and picked you up. You were as soft as a cotton ball, smelled like a baby and you had the cutest blonde eyelashes I had ever seen. I was in love. I handed you to Momma Linda and said, “This is her. This is Vegas!” Momma Linda felt your soft fur and saw your Huskadorable eyelashes and said, “Yep, this is Vegas!” And that is how you joined our family.

That story always makes me smile. Once we arrived at my new home, I was introduced to my fur brother and sisters, Cruiser, Maggie and Lucy. They were the strangest looking puppies. They had pointy ears, long whiskers, long tails and I soon learned, sharp claws. I really wanted them to like me so, I ran up and jumped on Cruiser just like I had done with all my other siblings. They loved it when we played and I was sure Cruiser would, too. He was not impressed. He pushed me off and hissed at me. I tried again to make friends this time with Maggie. I turned to walk towards her and ZOOM, she ran away. I had one more chance to make a good impression. I turned and looked at Lucy. She looked back. Before I could walk up to greet her Lucy pounced and knocked me over. Momma Deb picked me up and whispered in my ear, “Don’t worry Vegas. Your cat brother and sisters will come around.” What is a cat, I wondered? (Check out the picture of Cruiser daring me to ‘cross the line’)

Momma Deb, Momma Linda and I did everything together. We went on walks, played in St. Croix Bluffs Park, went for car rides and so much more. One of my favorite things to do was swimming in the St. Croix River and then going to Dairy Queen for some ice cream. (Check out my action photos in the river and eating DQ). I also loved to run the fence with my next door BFFs (best furry friends) Rosie and Ruger. But my all time favorite thing to do was to give kisses. The first time I kissed my Auntie Carol, I accidentally ate her diamond earring. Oops!

As a Husky-adorable, I loved snow. I loved to play in it, roll in it and best of all I loved to eat it. The absolute best tasting snow was buried under great piles and deep drifts so, I just dove in. (Check out the picture of me with my head buried.) One thing I did NOT like to do was wearing costumes. My Packers bandana was on point. However, as you can see, my mommas enjoyed dressing me up. Halloween was bad but Christmas was the worst. They even made that picture into our Christmas card. Ruff!

In our family we each had a special job. My special job was to keep my mommas happy at all times. I took this job very seriously. I was never too far away as you can see in the picture of me waiting patiently for a momma outside the bathroom. I worked extra hard at keeping Momma Linda company when she was so sad about Momma Deb’s death. Momma Linda told me I helped her get through the hardest time in her life. She said I was the best dog ever!

My Mommas told me from the time I was just a puppy, “all dogs go to heaven.” To be honest I didn’t really believe it. Well now, I can’t speak for all dogs, but I know I made it because when I stepped on the rainbow bridge I saw Cruiser, Maggie, Lucy and Momma Deb waiting for me on the other side. Now the 4 of us keep our hearts and eyes on Momma Linda until we are all together again.
